Northern Ballet – Peter Pan

Peter PanAs a Christmas gift “The Beloved” and I were given tickets to see the Northern Ballet Company perform Peter Pan at the Grand Theatre in Leeds. I’ve seen the Northern Ballet perform before with productions such as Romeo and Juliet and also Dracula, so I knew that they could do a good performance when dealing with subjects other than the traditional “Swan Lake” type material.

Peter Pan was excellent, the sets and costumes were fabulous, including the pantomine style Nana the dog! But the best thing about the performance had to be the wire work. How anyone can still perform dance moves while flying through the air is beyond me, it looked magical! Peter Pan flew across the stage, landing on very small areas such as bedposts and mantlepieces, danced and flew off again, balancing precariously on any object he fancied.

The performance is highly recommended if you get a chance, it’s a show I’d gladly go back to see if they do it again later in the year.

Glad you enjoyed it – I have heard good reports of it. I used to see a lot of ballet, mostly the traditional ones – - Swan Lake – - La Fille Mal Gardee – - and really used to enjoy them. But I never think to go these days, perhaps because I’ve been diverted in the direction of plays which I have to see as part of my job.
